Can I Go as an Individual?
All members of a mission trip must be part of a team of at least seven (7) people. If you are an individual, we encourage you to sign-up for one of our trips, but speaking to your church and finding others to join you will enhance your chances of receiving the trip you particularly want to go on. If not enough people sign-up for your trip, we will inform you 30-days before the trip to see if you would like to join a different team or receive a refund.
If you are currently a high school or middle school student you must travel with your parent or an adult legal guardian who serves as your caretaker. For minors, parent/guardian must sign-up for the high school or middle school student.
If you have additional questions, please contact Slavic Christian Ministries at 719-271-7375.
Health & Safety
Slavic Christian Ministries Health & Safety plan provides the following:
Medical kits: In each location we are always very close to locations that allow us to get immediate over-the-counter medications similar to Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc. We allow each adult to use their sole discretionary when purchasing medication. All parents or trip legal guardians will be notified prior to receiving any medical attention.
Emergency response plan: Based on the severity of each emergency, Slavic Christian Ministries has a plan for each appropriate response.
- If a team member becomes seriously ill, they will be taken to a local doctor to receive appropriate medical attention and medications. If they are a minor, their Team Leader along with our staff will accompany them to the clinic. If needed, their parents will be contacted. Their recovery will be carefully monitored by our staff.
- If there is an accident that requires a doctor, but is not life threatening and does not have the potential to cause permanent damage, Slavic Christian Ministries staff will locate the Team Leader, contact parents or guardians (providing the injured is a minor) and provide safe but quick transportation to a local clinic.
- In the event that an accident occurs which is life threatening or has the potential for permanent damage, emergency medical care will be secured and arraignments will be made if necessary, to transport the injured person to the United States as quickly as possible providing they are serving in one of our International locations.
All medical care is the sole responsibility of the team member. Slavic Christian Ministries requires every team member to be covered by domestic medical insurance and recommends that team members traveling abroad carry additional international travel insurance to cover any medical needs their domestic medical insurance may not cover.
Ukraine has a population of about 44 million people. There are two million people who reside in the city of Kharkov (northeast Ukraine), which is the second largest city in Ukraine. Saltavka is a suburb of Kharkov.
Saltavka orphanage is one or the more open orphanages within the city. We have been working with this orphanage for many years. It is a government run, but other teams have been able to minister here in the past. This orphanage is where very needy kids come that were just pulled out of abusive homes or off the hard streets of Kharkov. These kids have a very great need for the love of Jesus and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Teams coming to this location will need to be more covert in their presentation of the gospel, but a huge opportunity for salvation. These kids will be very open to your investment in their lives.
The task of your team is to invest in these kids through a Vacation Bible School, play games, enjoy crafts, engage in sports activities, and just love on them. If you choose to join this team, we will help prepare you in advance for your VBS, and provide you with a one-day orientation and preparation day before beginning the ministry with the kids. There are a variety of orphan ages, ranging from toddlers to mature teenagers. There are approximately 60-80 children within this orphanage.
